News > UAE Armenians > Catholicos Aram I inspects the location of the future Armenian Church in Abu Dhabi
On his way back from India to Lebanon, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I stopped for two days in the United Arab Emirates. He was welcomed in Dubai Airport by Archbishop Gorun Babian and members of the National Council.
His Holiness attended a vesper service in Abu Dhabi. He also attended a dinner reception organized by the National Council of Abu Dhabi Armenians.
In 2007, the Ruler of Abu Dhabi allocated a piece of land (3000 square meters in Mussaffah area) to the Armenian Community, in order to build a church and community center there.
Catholicos Aram confirmed that the design of the church is already approved by the Catholicosate's Real Estate Department. Before that, the design was endorsed by the Prelacy's Legislative Council in 2009, following a heated voting session between two designes.
According to different sources, the construction of the church will start as soon as the initial phase of the fund raising campaign is over.
