Alexandria exhibitionOn the occasion of the birth centenary of Armeno-Egyptian artist Hampar Hampartsoumian, AGBU Cairo, with the cooperation of AGBU Alexandria, organized an exhibition of his finest works and also those of many other Egyptian Armenian artists of different generations. The exhibition is being held at the “Atelier d’Alexandrie” from Thursday 6th to Wednesday 12th November 2008.

The opening ceremony was held with the presence of many important personalities such as Mohsen Shaalan, head of the Ministry of Culture’s Fine Arts sector, Mostafa Abdel Wahab, president of Alexandria’s Fine Arts museum, Dr. Mohamed Rafik Khalil, president of the “Atelier d’Alexendrie", the Chairmen of AGBU Cairo and AGBU Alexandria as well as many Art fans and critics.

The works on display have been collected by AGBU Cairo from private collections and different organizations. Throughout the past few months, AGBU Cairo, through the coordinator of the exhibition, Hrant Keshishian, has been archiving, indexing and photographing Armeno-Egyptian artists’ works in Cairo.

The same work has also been done in Alexandria through Sarkis Tossounian, who thanks to his artistic taste and connections has formed along with Hrant, an excellent duo which ensured the excellent quality and organization of this exhibition.

Hampar Hampartsoumian was born in Alexandria in 1908. He was one of the famous 3rd generation Egyptian Armenian artists. The first exhibition of his works was held at the “Salon d’Alexandrie” in 1939. Since then he was invited to exhibit his works in Florence, Venise, Paris and Lausanne. His paintings are still exhibited nowadays in the art galleries of Cairo, Alexandria, Lausanne and Vienna and in private collections throughout the World.. He passed away in 1982.

Apart from Hampartsoumian’s works, the exhibition is also featuring the works of other prominent Armeno-Egyptian painters and sculptors. The list includes well-established names like Yervand Demirdjian, Vahram Manavian, Alexandre Saroukhan, Ashod Zorian, Vahan Hovivian, Arte Topalian, Puzant Godjamanaian, Simon Shahrikian, Jirayr Palamoudian, John Papazian, Simon Samsonian and Elise Partam. The exhibition will aslo include contemporary artists like Hovhannes Denkdjian, Armenouhi Jamgotchian, Nora Ipekian, Hrant Keshishian, Shant Avedissian, Vahe Varjabedian, Sarkis Tossounian,  Aline Djizmedjian, Marie Artinian, Vahan Telpian, Armen Agop and Kegham Djeghalian.

The exhibition closed its doors on Wednesday 12th November 2008 at 5:00 pm.
