A beautiful ceremony in the Armenian Church Friday, October 20, 2006

"There is a very beautiful ceremony in the Armenian church which I haven't seen in any other church.

Before the service, the priest enters a special room where he puts on the vestments. First he takes a white shirt and says, May the joy of the Lord be in this shirt so that I wear it as a victory for the Forces of Light ..... Then he puts on the next article and says another prayer and blessing. As he puts on each remaining vestment, he charges them with joy, blessings, and bliss. Finally, he puts on the slippers and says, With these slippers I am going to serve the Lord on the altar.

Everything he wears is now blessed. You feel so differently when you are dressed in such vestments. It is as if you are really somebody else, all because of the blessing."

Who Do You Think You Are? Tuesday, October 03, 2006

Wednesday 4th October 2006

BBC1     9:00pm - 10:00pm (BST British Summer Time)

David Dickinson

It's human instinct, I suppose, to look at the trials undergone by one's forebears and to think, "Aaah, that's what made me the person I am today." Often this is at best wishful thinking or, at worst, vanity, yet it's hard to argue with David Dickinson's strong identification with his Armenian trading roots.

Dickinson's journey to discover his past is more complicated than most, in that he was given up for adoption by his single mother and raised by a kindly couple in Stockport. He discovered his adoption aged just 11, and questions about his parentage led to the discovery of his mother's name, Eugenie Gulessarian, and her Armenian origins.

In an often touching story, punctuated by tears as Dickinson meets a beloved aunt and a half-brother he hasn't known for long, the antiques dealer heads to a baking Istanbul to pore over long lists of names in big books and to trace his textile-trading ancestors.

France: Penalization of the negation of the Armenian Genocide Friday, September 29, 2006

On October 12, 2006, French Socialist party will submit to the Parliament the text intended to penalize the negation of the Armenian Genocide.

Indeed, last 18 May, the debates had been stopped. This adjournment had raised the concern of many French, in particular those of Armenian origin and a great majority of deputies, seeing in this practice a refusal of democracy.

The Council of Coordination of the Armenian French Organizations (CCAF) is delighted to see this text submitted again to the Parliament. This initiative testifies the dedication of the elected officials to the principles of democracy and their refusal to see the French Law undergoing the influence and the interferences of a foreign State.

Castanet Dance Show Sunday, September 17, 2006

LOGO OF CASTANET DANCE GROUPCastanet Dance Show was held on 7th & 8th of September 2006 in Dubai Chamber of Commerce Auditorium by main Sponsorship and Organization of Lorenzo Company.

Armenian children from the ages of 4 -18 performed a unique presentation of international-style dancing. The show aimed to amaze audiences with powerful performances of traditional and modern Armenian dances, as well as European and Latin American dances. It’s difficult for a five-year-old child to dance professionally in public places. However, they are professionally trained. This show was held for the first time in Middle East and intended to promote the art and culture of International dance in the UAE.

After having a unique performance in the event, Castanet Dance Group spent four more days in Dubai touring all over the city and enjoying their time in deferent places like the desert.
