Andree Haig Sunday, January 21, 2007

I saw your page http://www.azad-hye.net/news/viewnews.asp?newd=163

This letter is to provide you with some information about my dad who is from Armenian origin. He made about 200 painting in Egypt. I have at home 6 of his paintings and I can send you photos. His name was Andree Haig. I can provide more information if you need them. Some of his painting might be still in circulation. He made them between 1923 and 1959. His style was impressionist. He is probably unknown in the art world. He also did some murals in Cairo or Alexandria in Egypt for a Catholic or Orthodox church. I sent this letter with the hope of getting him some recognition. He died in 1998 in San Francisco. His name was pronounced Andrei.

The latest victim of the Armenian Genocide and Democracy: Hrant Dink Friday, January 19, 2007

A year ago this writer and some friends were actively involved in collecting signatures for a petition that was being circulated by the Workshop of Armenian and Turkish Scholars. It was sent to the Turkish authorities who would try Hrant Dink for insulting "Turkish identity". Subsequently Orhan Pamuk Elif Shefak Taner Akcam and a host of others would face the same charge.

Since then a warm friendship developed through emails phone calls and eventually we had the opportunity to meet each other at the Armenia/Diaspora Conference this past September. We shared thoughts and despite differences of opinion we parted with the deep feeling that our friendship would prevail for years to come. Unfortunately it was short lived and terminated by a fanatic. Hrant Dink was assassinated today.

Personal feelings and emotions aside Hrant Dink is the latest victim of the Armenian Genocide.  The atmosphere of hatred intolerance and deplorable stance of the Turkish establishment regarding Human Rights and Freedom of Speech paved the way to such a tragic end. Dink as a tormented and true citizen of the World fought fervently primarily for Democracy in Turkey.

It’s not the first time that a friend is brutally silenced by an assassin.  I hear Hrant Dink’s message along others who paid the ultimate price.  It’s the message of peace democracy and respect of Human Rights.

Pedro & His Girl

One beautiful December evening Pedro and his girlfriend Rosita were sitting by the side of the ocean. It was a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do Weeweechu."

"Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita.

"Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it's the perfect time," Pedro begged.

"But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon." replied Rosita.

"Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me."

Rosita looked at Pedro and said, "OK, one time, we'll do Weeweechu."

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang... "Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."
