After the Genocide of the early 20th century, Armenian identity in Turkey has been hidden or even pushed away for fear of discrimination.

To Chilean Government officials Sunday, April 22, 2007
We condemn your insensitivity (see below note).
On the night of April 23 (to the morning of April 24) ninety two years ago hundreds of Armenian intelligentsia were rounded up in Istanbul and put to murder. They, together with more than one million Armenians, were the victims of the Genocide.
Unfortunately you chose that night to do your celebrations.
We wonder what lessons you have learned from your own recent past. When your people were suffering, we were all sharing the grief with your persecuted citizens.
We still highly value your struggle for democracy and freedom, but we expect you to be careful when foreign manipulators choose particular days and activities that intentionally overshadow the pain of Armenians.
A real friend must tell the truth. We would appreciate if you help your Turkish counterparts to acknowledge the Genocide and recognize the rights of the Armenians. We believe the fight for justice should remain an important issue on your agenda.

Armenian Genocide Recognition Petition Friday, April 13, 2007
The 1,500,000 Signatures Petition campaign is the first of its kind on the long ‎history of the Internet. Never before has there been such a grassroots effort to collect such a large number of signatures. Our goal is to collect ‎‎1,500,000 signatures (the same number of the Armenians who lost their lives during the ‎Genocide) and send the petition to (1) the United Nations; (2) the ‎countries that still didn’t recognize the Genocide; (3) and all major Human Rights ‎organizations around the world. To achieve our goal, we have created this website as the driving force for a massive email promotional campaign. Please sign ‎the petition and help promote it so that we may reach our lofty goals with this project.

'Light the Night' Friday, April 13, 2007

Light the Night

On the eve of April 24th, we encourage to “Light the Night” by lighting a candle through the night of the 23rd and into the morning of the 24th, in remembrance of the 1.5 million souls that fell victim to the annihilation machine of the Ottoman Empire. Each lit candle placed on the window sill will represent a soul lost throughout the years of 1915 and 1923. Together, let’s “Light the Night”; let’s vow to remember, to never forget, and to pursue justice and peace for all humanity.

Visit http://www.armenica.org/light-the-night for further information and campaign material. Help us spreading the light by fowarding this campaign message to your contacts.
The "Light the Night" campaign is a joint world wide compaign driven by Armenica.org and ArmeniaDiaspora.com and was launched for the first time in 2005 during the 90th remembrance day of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Comment on: Andranik Teymourian plays in the Iranian football team Friday, April 13, 2007
Andranik TeymourianWe received the following comment by Chekad Sarami on the subject: Andranik Teymourian plays in the Iranian football team
Well, Armenians are not Iranians and Iranians are not Armenians.
There are many Germans, Italians, Greeks ... living in the USA, with its very tiny history compared to Iran / Persia but they are not called after 200 years German Americans.
Andranik is absolutely Iranian. You make it sound like he is a second generation Armenian in IRAN!!!
NO!! Armenians have lived in Iran for over thousand years, as other Iranian ethnic groups. They are great Iranians. Again, we don't need to split people based on their differences. We do not need to talk about difference... only if you are trying to cause a problem in that country...

Comment from Azad-Hye: We also believe that Iranian Armenians are part of the Iranian society. Talking about them does not mean that we are "trying to cause a problem". If we would not talk about the Iranian Armenians, Lebanese Armenians, Jordanian Armenians and all the Armenians in the area, then what is the purpose of our website!
Armenian Easter Friday, April 06, 2007
Easter sees by far the biggest church attendance by Armenians. Many Armenians only go to church on Easter day, gaining themselves the title "Easter Christians". The Armenian traditional greeting on Easter is "Krisdos haryal i merelots" (Christ is risen from the dead), to which you reply "Orhnyal e harutyun' Krisdosi" (Blessed is the resurrection of Christ).
According to Article 8 of the Rules of the Armenian Apostolic Church "Easter or the Resurrection of Christ should be celebrated after Lent, which lasts for forty days." (here there is a contradiction I do not understand, since lent lasts 7 weeks in the Armenian church, which equals 49 days)
The Feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox. Therefore, Easter may fall between March 22 and April 25.
During the Divine Liturgy celebrated on Easter Eve (also called the Candle Mass) on Saturday, "When the good news of Christ's Resurrection is given, the seven-week-long Lent is over. Every one lights a candle, tastes the egg they have taken along and bids farewell to Lent."
